The Borromean Islands

Cannero Castles

In front of Cannero Riviera, where one may swim on beautiful beaches, one may also admire the ruins of ancient castles that rise directly over the cliffs. This is the direct proof of the ancient clashes between Guelphs and Ghibellines, which soaked the area with blood and forced many local lords to build fortified constructions.

The elegant villas of Lake Maggiore

The Villa Ducale of StresaVilla Taranto in Verbania, with its botanical gardens; Villa Rusconi-Clerici in Pallanza; Villa Faraggiana in Meina and many more. The lake’s entire perimeter is scattered with breath-taking villas, often surrounded by extremely well-attended gardens.

Sports to exercise

It’s beautiful to ride a bicycle down from Premeno, down through the town roads, to see the villages’ everyday life up close and to delve into cultural and culinary routes.

Other sports that can be performed are:

  • Sailing and windsurfing: thanks to the constant winds that break out against Lake Maggiore’s surface, there is no lack of raw material for all lovers of these disciplines
